If you’re a Tolkien fan then this is the book for you and I for one am excited to read the next instalment - Stone Of Tears.

Follow our lovely hero Richard, a simple woodsman, as he battles to save the world from the evil rule of Darken Rahl with his two friends Kahlan and Zedd.

Richard is the hero dreams are made of as even when he has no clue what he has to do next he somehow manages to scramble onto the right path, but it’s always a fight and an uphill struggle against the dark forces trying to stop him and use him for the knowledge he has that he doesn’t at first realise is so important.

Richard falls in love with Kahlan, but although it’s clear she loves him she can’t be with him as it will mean the end of them all. What is Kahlan’s secret?

Zedd holds all the clues, and even though he’s Richard’s closest friend he keeps the clues close to his chest and because of this Richard nearly comes undone a couple of times. What is Zedd’s secret that he can’t keep Richard abreast of all that is going on?

Richard has a secret and it’s a big one, one he isn’t allowed to tell anyone, it’s just unfortunate that if Zedd knew, he’d have kept Richard well away from their destination because Richard’s secret is set to unravel them all.

The book is slow to get going but once it does (about a third of the way in) it will keep you hooked until the very end.
